NUNAVUT GOES NUNA-NDIT!

It's been a few weeks now since the COT's very own NDIT went up for the journey of his life to the Canadian Arctic. Now settled down in Cape Dorset, Nunavut, he kindly answered some questions in regards to his well being and his situation.

TK: How was the flight there and first few days?

NDIT: Flight was kinda harsh...almost puked on the last plane....

TK: What is the town like?

NDIT: Small....it's not too bad though.....very beautiful scenery ...went hiking up a mountain/hill today and the view was amazing....I'm sitting at the top and I turn around and behind me this huge wall of fog sweeps over me...got a bit wet but it was awesome!

TK: What are the people like?

NDIT: The people here are pretty friendly in a "do you wanna smoke some weed with me?" kind of way. Not to say they're all high, but drug abuse is up there. Fortunately its mostly just weed, so they're mostly just mellowed by it.

TK: In your job, what do you do? What are the hours? Is it tough?

NDIT:The job ain't too bad actually ..I'm the manager of a convenience store...I work six days a week...almost nine hours a day except for Sunday which I work 11 hours..As you can see its long hours but its all good I guess...I just wish I wasn't sick and I've been sick since I got here...

TK: Who are your main contacts?

NDIT: I guess that would be my boss who is 30 years old and a pretty good guy...my employees...people at the lodge like the cook etc..and the town's folk... many aquaintances but no friends yet.

TK: Any funny/crazy experiences?

NDIT: Hmmm...this woman in the store swore at me because I wouldn't sell cigarettes to a 14 year old.  I thought that was kinda humourous....oh...and being a non-drinking, non weed-smoking virgin simply amazes some of the kids here.....I was talking to these two girls and they were so shocked ......it made me laugh hard!

TK: Accomodations and meals, whatsitlike?

NDIT: The meals are all free and restaurant style...its pretty cool....I have free reign of the kitchen....I sleep in a two bed room...not the best but it has a TV and VCR....comfortable enough I guess.

TK: How far ya' live from work? How ya' get there?

NDIT: I work right next door to the lodge that I sleep at...I usually walk to work...I occasionally skip to work too.

TK: Snowmobilin' yet?

NDIT: Nah...there's still grass and flowers yo...

TK: What places are there to chill?

NDIT: Not many...the locals constantly complain of how bored they are.

TK: What do you do in your spare time?

NDIT: ....read ...this (internet)....write...a bit of television ...hike ....get to know people.

TK: Northern Lights?

NDIT: Haven't seen them here yet....but i have seen them in Calgary and I think they are simply terrific!

TK: Iqualit (capital of Nunavut)? Been there? More happenings than Dorset?

NDIT: I was in Iqualit for two hours in between flights so I can't really comment...there was a cool store in the airport that sold stuff of various design and function though.

TK: How are you feeling?

NDIT: Starting to feel lonely, especially when I think that I'll be here at least till December. No worries though, just need to get together with God on a regular basis so I can know what's going on.

I went to church one Sunday night but it was all in Inuktituk. Met a dude beforehand and he came so I had a bit of translation going on.

Even if I don't understand the language God still speaks to the soul, nah mean?

NDIT says he is working on some solo songs up in Cape Dorset so hopefully we'll soon hear some gems pop up from him musically. Keep him in your prayers and contact him at n_dit@hotmail.com. Peace!
