NEWS Update!

July 2000-Jan 2001 Archives
February-July 2001 Archives

MARCH 1, 2002
----TOMORROW, Saturday March 2nd, catch Crown of Thorns Crew and Lingo of the FAS at a hip hop spectacular. "Always Today" is the 14th annual fundraiser for The Art Gallery of Calgary (funding programs for art development in the local community). They are (through Tim Grey) showcasing a hip hop event with DJ, and BBoy battles, as well as our performance. It starts at 10pm. Call 770-1350 for info and Tix.

----TK and Nii rocked in front of the Mac Hall at the U of C on Wednesday Feb. 27 during a noon Black History Month concert.

----More developments on the horizon. Stay tuned!

FEBRUARY 17, 2002
-----TOMORROW (Monday February 18th) at the AUXILARY (not the Cherry Lounge, as originally stated) catch TeeKay performing For You with QK partner I.P. in opening for former Anticon-man Josh Martinez. TeeKay might also be droppin' a solo joint. Look out now!

-----MIC CHECK 3 was praised by all as a night for the history books. It was a smooth flowing, spontaneous, funky experience that demonstrated how ill hip hop can be when it's clean and positive, uplifting the Creator. Hip Hop doesn't need alcohol, drugs or sex to get you high, the music can stand by itself. The talented group of individuals responsible for the night proved that, and should give themselves a pat on the back. On a negative note, money from the night has gone missing. Overall, however, spirits are still high amongst the camp.

-----At the show, the Shortop/DJ Nato CD was officially releases in Calgary. The five track EP features our very own Belo (on Limelight) and others. Definitely music to groove to and pound in your systems cuz it hits hard.

-----Major developments are underway which would basically re-invent the COT union as a part of a larger union called F.A.S. Yes, no longer just a thought, it looks to be coming into fruition very soon!

FEBRUARY 9, 2002
-----Hello my little friends! I don't know how many of y'all are out there, but to the faithful remnant comes another...boom-bap-bow!...update!

-----First off, in less than a week on Friday Feb. 15th, MIC CHECK 3 at Jubilee Christian Centre at the base of the Calgary Tower is gonna be phizzat, fantizzyastic, supa dupa uh uh yeah. THAT good. Our main man DJ Cosmacular let us big up the show for the second-straight week on his underground show “Mental Illness”. Belo, Tee Kay and Lingo got to spit along with local emcee/graff artist Rank in a live freestyle session on air.

-----The QK may be recording new tracks soon. Response has been encouraging for the first four opuses: Mind Your K's and Q's, For You, Colorful and Q-Rius Kreation. mp3.com/qk.

-----The TK live band for Mic Check is a small but effective group of talented musicians: James Onginator on drums, Brad McGillicuttay on keys and Kevin Bassmanlee on bass. Sizzick widdit!

-----Look out for these ill combos at Mic Check: NDIT w/ Belo, NDIT w/ Lingo, TK w/ Belo & Lingo, TK w/ IP, TK w/ Nii G., Belo w/ Shortop and more, oh so much more. But remember to keep praying for this night!!! I'm out y'all...comments, suggestions- terakoza@hotmail.com. One.

-----Check out the first draft for a Crown of Thorns flash site by Boyce Muirhead. A sister flash site to this HTML site will soon be completed by Boyce (DJ Liks) in the next few weeks.

DECEMBER 5, 2001
-----Nathan Lenet (aka N-DIT) made a sneaky return to Calgary late last week. Welcome back bro! In fashion news, the poetic sensation comes back with thicker dreads and a new goatee!

-----TK and Nii G. have a little performance scheduled for the Cochrane Boys & Girls club this Saturday, December 8th in the evening.

-----Belo, N-DIT (and possibly TK) will travel up to Edmonton next Tuesday to chill with DJ Nato and friends. Belo is supposed to rip a verse there on the Shortop & Nato EP.

-----Q-Rius Kreation (TK and Infinite P) is scheduled to start recording a long-awaited project next week! Hopefully we'll hear something soon from them.

NOVEMBER 28, 2001
-----The third annual MIC CHECK hip hop show has been set for Friday, February 15th, 2002 at the Jubilee Christian Centre underneath the Calgary Tower.

-----N-DIT should be back from Nunavut any day now! He has a few songs ready to record once he gets back.

OCTOBER 10, 2001
-----Tarik (and possibly Belo & Bishop) will be performing next Wednesday October 17th between 10PM and 12AM at the Castle Pub at 1217 1st St. SW in Calgary. This free show is to support the struggling hip hop night Dirty Decibels being put on there each Wednesday by DJ Proph & DJ Cosm. Come out and support! It is 18 and over (apologies, but there will be all ages shows soon). Buy a coke while you're there so the pub can make some profit from the night. Also performing will be Rank & Cosm as well as the Expert Panel and possibly Endangered Species.

-----Check out the new bios by Belo and TK. Look at Belo's snazzy picture, come on y'all! See the men behind the music! Also, remember to download our entire debut album for free on mp3.com!

-----DJ Grubbe has given me a tape of potential beats for the Complex Souls. Ohmigoshgoodness, some of the stuff is amazing, drop dead gorgeous! Make sure to catch his show "Earwax" every Tuesday from 9PM to 10PM on CKUL in Lethbridge or on the web at http://home.uleth.ca/~ckul/ . I recently did a freestyle for the show that he'll probably air. A lot of nice turntablism and positive underground sounds are the norm for this program.

OCTOBER 9, 2001
-----Journey Is Destination, our debut LP from 2000, is now available for FREE download from mp3.com! The ENTIRE album! Chow down on some pleasant hip hop, andtell all your friends about it!

-----Check out the revised bios for Belo and TK! We both took the time to write some dope stuff and have new bio photos. I guess the only one that needs to get to writin' a bio now is our boy NDIT (pictured here).

-----Coming soon to our MP3.com site will be the infamous July 2000 NDIT farewell freestyle-marathon that aired on CJSW's Mental Illness show with DJ Cosm! The freestyles go on for almost twenty minutes and are freakin' hilarious. Look out for that!

-----More photos coming to the media section soon!

OCTOBER 4, 2001
-----Spread the news! Tarik is back like that, updating the Crownofthorns.8k.com website. If any of y'all are out there, tell everyone to come back! I promise many goodies will fill up some of the empty pockets on this website. The first change you will notice is the news. In the vein of okayplayer.com, I'll try and get each update accompanied with a picture, plus have links that open in a different window to avoid confusion.

-----LoStar (aka Belo) and T.E.E. (me) want to tell y'all to "be patient, like waiting for the train down at the subway station". Why? Because we are making plans to combine our solo and group efforts into the Complex Souls LP. The plan is to have three or four individual songs each plus three or four songs together. Production from myself, DJ Nato, DJ Grubbe (and perhaps Infinite P or DJ Cosm). Guests including Lingo, Nii G, Lisa Jacobs and Stu Dent (aka Sev Statik, pictured here.) We sent him the vocals for Subway Station, which should be on both his Stu Dent album and our album.

-----Speaking of Sev, check out his contributions on the deepspace 5 and Tunnel Rats albums coming out November to a store near you. You can check out his spot on the Tunnel Rats video and find more info about him at UprokRecords.com

AUGUST 7, 2001

-----August 25th, that's a Saturday....Jubilee Christian Centre is putting on a dope lil' festival at Olympic Plaza called "Chosen". Speakers, bike and skateboard repairs, music, dramas, prayer, face painting...hey maybe even a little rap!
