HALF
& HALF
RECORDED: JUNE
2000
THE STORY: We
had yet to do a song with all three members. This was the first one. It
was kind of a "kill two birds with one stone" kind of idea because we had
the opportunity to get some more songs done for the album as well as get
a track done for the "To the Ends of the Earth" compilation put out by
DJ Trey-Qel of Future Shock (Just in case you're wondering, it's still
not out yet). This is how the creation of the song originally known as
"Half Full, Half Empty" came about. An intersesting time indeed during
the creation of the track, we had some conflicts but it turned out pretty
decent. Andrew Down was present at the recording of this song at the Dark
Matter Studios. Originally we were going to do another song in this session
called "Orientation" over an Oriental beat with DJ Disoriental on the cuts
(didn't work out) and Falice saying stuff in Chinese. No dice! :)
LYRICS:
NDIT:
Complete release of all past hip-hop
standards
takes place, erased canvas is now
ready for
a new embrace. Unsheath my ink, and
allow tongue
to finally think, finally think..
BELO:
I'm talkin' about the way we rhyme, the
way I find
time to talk about the strain on my
frame, combined
talkin about the stain of sin, I
heard a man
talkin' to the lame with no precept
for fame.
He spoke words and instantly He
healed him.
NDIT:
Now a new journey begins, a lyrical
attempt to
bring minds beyond simple origins.
Organize all
that concentration and focus on this
organic mental
saturation. Your brain is a sponge
craving for
truth to start soakin' in.
BELO:
I was once condemned, then saved- never
again to see
the grave. This man Jesus
pre-destined
me to demonstrate freedom and
start living
salvation. In a world where I'm pacing
like a nervous
wreck. Trying to figure out What
D. Heck is
placing me, you and all of us behind
empty words
that serve no real direction. I'd
rather swerve
into traffic oncoming and learn a
lesson. To
mean what I say, acknowledge my
imperfection.
Live the fullest of days and never
rest till
the sun sets with...
TK:
The rhythmic flow articulated, wordsmiths
preaching
good news to those illiterate. Sick,
because as
humans, that's what we are,
represent,
re-present the omnipotent, not a local
metropolis.
You say Word, why don't you read
it? For real,
most wrappers contain corroding
candy disposed
into waste baskets following
consumption
by the consumer but this brotha's
heard another
rumor...
BELO:
True, ah TK, we supposed to reach out
with real
nutrients that reside within
omnipotence.
I'm talkin' bout, walkin' bout in
humility focus.
Livin' dipped in the abundance of
His eternal
well, my optics now properly seeing
and my heart
believing, (leaving lives are swell?)
with love.
Hip-Hop is just a cover up for what?
It's just
a cover up for what?
NDIT:
Whether our rhymes are half full or half
empty, to
a dehydrated hip-hop head, it's
definitely
plenty.
TK:
My mind's divided into factions: what I
desire and
what I know as Truth- solid, never
changing,
no re-arranging no renovatin', pupils
dilatin' on
the amazement of a God who loves
even me! The
tree from which all life spwns: an
invisible
force seen with your heart and not your
retina, insead-a
followin' the mass rebellion I
choose this
course in life, a part of His written
story.
NDIT:
Sorry if you're expecting less but this
verse is dedicated
to the glory, poetry extracted
from raw Truth
to ingest. Does His promise raise
hands in protest?
Insead, extend those limbs in
praise to
the highest. I accept no worship. I'm
here to make
it easier to digest like a Father's
open invitation,
or perhaps a Son's lifelong
dedication.
Concentration, is now needed to gain
a full understanding.
This is an example of using
the simplest
words to describe the most
confounding
script.
BELO:
I've waited till now to make it but I
tripped. In
my realization of my weaknesses my
strength is
now stretching out to grasp the
source of
power: the Creator. But that's
physically
impossible so the gospel be the fader,
connecting
the 1 and 2's transforming Jesus to
me and you
and breaking silence to the Jews
violence,
cold war the Son of Man. All for a
purpose instilled
within His plan. Know who I
am- just another
formed being chosen to walk
the dark earth
with new vision seeing- marks
with my eternal
soul, so I'll eternally flow and
stand. From
this until the very next land.
NDIT:
Observe understanding, beginning to
expand, conserve
the urge to label intelligent
rhymes a contrebande,
audible salt in a world
made of bland.
There's enough here to go
around, just
put out your hand, your hand, your
hand.
NDIT:
Whether our rhymes are half full or half
empty, to
a dehydrated Hip Hop head, it's
definitely
plenty.
BELO:
It's definitely plenty.
TK:
Yeah.
